LCS Superintendent Search

Lynchburg City Schools is currently looking for a new Superintendent. The school board is utilizing an ad hoc committee to guide the process of searching for candidates to fill the position. Find more information on the committee below or visit the LCS website here.


Search timeline:

  • Closing date for applications: Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 (11:30 p.m. central time)
  • School Board selects finalists to interview: March 2025
  • Finalists Interviews with the School Board: March 2025
  • Selection of new Superintendent: Early April 2025
  • Start date: on or before Tuesday, July 1, 2025

Community Feedback


As it looks to best meet the needs of students, families, staff members, and community members in the years ahead, the School Board seeks feedback that will help inform the search process for the superintendent. Community members are invited to attend a series of feedback sessions, during which they can share their thoughts on the experiences, attributes, and characteristics they think the next superintendent should have.

Ad Hoc Superintendent Search Committee


The committee will play a pivotal role in selecting candidates for consideration by the School Board. The committee will oversee the process of selecting the consulting search firm, identifying qualified candidates, conducting interviews, and making recommendations to the School Board. The members of the Ad Hoc Superintendent Search Committee include:


  • Dr. Mark Tinsley - Co-Chair of the committee and current School Board member
  • Dr. Mike Nilles - Co-Chair of the committee and former School Board chairman who helped hire Dr. Edwards in 2018
  • Letitia Lowery - Current School Board member
  • Timothy Beatty - Principal, Heritage High School
  • Danny McCain - Lynchburg community member
  • Colleen Larkins - LCS Parent (and SOS Volunteer)
  • Megan Lucas - CEO & Chief Economic Development Officer, Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance
